Occupational Therapy Program Occupational therapy is a therapeutic, rehabilitative, and educational profession that supports students in engaging meaningfully in activities essential to their health, well-being, safety, and quality of life. At Hettena, our occupational therapists assess and treat students experiencing challenges in various activities, using a person-occupation-environment model. These challenges may arise from: • Personal factors, such as health conditions affecting motor function, sensory or emotional regulation, or cognitive, emotional, and social perception. • Occupational factors, related to the demands of the desired or required activity. • Environmental factors, stemming from the context in which the activity takes place. The primary goal of occupational therapy at our school is to empower students with greater autonomy—enabling them to express their preferences, make choices, and take control of their lives, even when full independence is not yet possible. Our program is flexible and tailored to meet the diverse needs of each student. Key focus areas include: • Ensuring proper seating and accessibility. • Adapting equipment to meet individual requirements. • Encouraging independence in daily activities. • Supporting learning, play, and leisure activities. • Facilitating social participation. • Preparing students for future occupational opportunities. Through this holistic approach, we help students build the skills and confidence they need to thrive in all aspects of life.
